Through my connections on Facebook, I've run into an old friend from Copperton, UT where I grew up. We had a short conversation yesterday about our "story book" childhood and how emotional we get when we go back to visit our old town.
It's hard to explain to somebody and have them understand what it was like growing up in Copperton. It was surreal. I can remember my childhood like it was yesterday. The house I grew up in was an old brick house that my parents bought for about 15,000 in 1970. It had no air conditioning, and it shared a driveway with the next door neighbors. We lived right down the street from one of the most beautiful parks in the valley, and across the street from the Lions Club which was used as the recreation center for the kids in town. I spent a lot of time at the park with my friends playing on the swings, roller skating, tennis...
Now, living in Copperton you are pretty much land locked as far as where you can go. That didn't mean there wasn't any trouble though. You had the park, the stadium behind the high school, and the Lions Club. Occasionally we would take our allowance money and ride up to the House of Copper to get an ice cream or candy bar, but that took at least an hour and we didn't usually have much cash for that stuff. We had one gas station in town which was more like a service station with one pump. We had a cafe that changed hands more times that you could count. The one I remember it being was Shirleys. We used to go down about once a month and get a plate of fries and a couple vanilla cokes. I can still remember it like it was yesterday!
I grew up in a town where people still hand-made their Halloween candy. Mrs. Winkler used to make the best homemade taffy on the planet. I grew up in a town where all of the kids were friends. We would stay out late and play "kick the can" until dark, jump on the Kendricks trampoline (the only people in town that had one). Every Christmas the Lions Club would have a big party for Christmas, Santa had a stocking for every kid in town, and then afterward the fire department would drive the old fire truck through town and deliver Sees Candy to each house. Mr. Cowdell would broadcast Christmas music over the loud speakers on his house for the whole town to hear. It's like a movie, my memories of this town. Like a Norman Rockwell painting.

Monday. Blah.
Well, I passed my shooting test for my blue card. lol. The only reason is I had a very understanding instructor. I did ok shooting the rabbit but I shot the squirrel twice in the tail. Scared him half to death. ha ha.
Had a relatively quiet weekend. Got the house cleaned up a bit, made homemade pulled pork on Saturday, fed a few friends, watched a movie. Sunday we pretty much bummed around the house, went to visit my parents for a bit...was really nice!
Have I mentioned I hate Mondays? :)

One day closer to Friday!
Do you ever wonder what goes on inside a woman's brain when she decides to be a home wrecker?? Seriously! Are these women so desperate that you don't think they could find a good man? Do they just want what they can't have? A good example is when you know a guy has a girlfriend or a wife, you keep sending texts, emailing, calling, etc...unless you are good friends with him and have known each other for some time, stop! Now, this isn't to say that the woman is always to blame, because married or taken men should act married or taken. Harmless flirting is one thing, but continuing to have a relationship with somebody you met on Myspace 2 years ago that you never see is not a friend. Somebody that you met in a chat room or match.com last year when you were single, you never see them or have only met them once, that is not a friend. You are just asking for disaster and drama. For many the it's the excitement, the hunt, going after what you don't have... all of it is enticing. But we don't need to let those emotions take over what our conscience or sense of decency knows. NOW I found this next piece on another blog which is very interesting.
Ten Characteristics of Great Men
1. Great men have their priorities in line. They know what is truly important in life, and live accordingly.
2. Great men are tender with those in need of tenderness. They are kind to the elderly, children, and those with disabilities.
3. Great men respect and honor women. They don't objectify, degrade, or demean them.
4. Great men participate in the community. They may spend time volunteering, working for a cause, or being involved with a charity.
5. Great men are honest, and have a sense of morality, integrity, and decency. They have an internal awareness of what is or is not appropriate, good, right, or decent.
6. Great men have a sense of purpose. They do not waste inordinate amounts of time in from of the TV or playing video games. They can balance fun and relaxation with work and productivity.
7. Great men are continually expanding their minds. They do not think they know it all and are open to new ideas and insights.
8. Great men have a healthy sense of self. They are confident and secure while maintaining a sense of humility.
9. Great men help and assist others. Whether in their place of employment, in their daily lives, or in the greater world at large, they have a sense of giving back.
10. Great men are in touch with their feelings, emotions, concerns, and even shortcomings. They don't feel a need for pretense or power. They can cry, have compassion, and acknowledge mistakes. They can love and be loved.
Note, a great man is not measured by the amount of money he has, the kind of car he drives, the size of his biceps, or outward appearance.
A great man reflects his greatness in his everyday life.
AMEN!

Frustrated with my job
I seriously feel like I am going to lose my mind right now. A serious panic attack. Most days I can handle my job just fine, but today customers are testing my patience. I have never in my life run into so many people who don't know one single thing about a computer. Even people my age who should at least know the basics! There is really no excuse to not know computers unless you've been living under a rock for the past 10 years. Why do you even own a computer if you don't even know how to get online? I am not here to teach you to use your computer, go take a class! Ok. I'm done.
So on a lighter note, I went to my first class last night for hunter safety. At first I thought it might be a bit boring, but really it was quite interesting. We had over 75 people show up for the class which is about 3 times the amount that usually shows up. My shooting test is on the 17th of January, if I pass that I get my blue card.
Speaking of guns, I've signed up for a class in February at FairWarning Training center to get my concealed permit. I took the class before but got lazy and never sent the application in. Considering the incoming president, this is on the top of my list of priorities. I want to be able to carry a gun for protection!
I am going to get a quick hair cut tonight, hopefully it will do something for this unruly, high-maintenance mop I call hair. Seriously. If it was even remotely attractive I would just shave it off. I am a little high maintenance in general, but my makeup takes about 10 minutes, my hair takes 30. WTF?? Seriously!
Done bitching for the day.
